Air Show

Between they gray skies and freezing temperatures, I didn't try real hard to get air show photos. Circumstances play a role as well. This year cool things just didn't happen while I was staring through the viewfinder...or maybe I was chattering so badly from the cold I never managed to get the shot off.

Sean D. Tucker

Sean D. puts on a great show, and sounds on the PA as though he is truly enjoying himself. Not much else to say. If you get a chance to see him fly, take it.

Red Bull Air Race

I appreciate the desire to raise aviation in public awareness. The question remains if this is the way to do it. The announcer's midwest monster truck style did nothing to improve matters. Odds are most of the crowd half wanted to see what what would really happen if a plane hit one of the cones. They claim to have thoroughly tested this scenario.

Julie Clark

With the current emphasis on everything faster and more extreme, Julie's underpowered T34 comes as a welcome contrast. The slow speeds and long flowing arcs of her routine have a stately elegance all their own.

Kent Pietsch

Oh my, is that his aileron falling off. Okay, as dumb as it seems, every time he does that routine somebody in the crowd thinks its real. The dead stick maneuvering routine, seen here, does have merit, and no amount of wind seems to keep him from hitting his spot on landing.

Heritage Flight

Hmm, the formations didn't really work this year. I got a couple real nice shots of the Bearcat and Fury together, but the F-18 was always too far away. The Air Force flight continually flew by wings level, so the view from the ground was poor. Raise your hand if you've never heard of the Navy's FJ-4 Fury. I thought it was a funky F-86 until the PA announcer informed us otherwise. Learn something new every day.

F4 Phantom

Was this really the last time we'll ever see a flying Phantom? I remember, as a little kid they used to launch out of either Boise or Mountain Home and come boom Sun Valley. It would scare the hell out you if you didn't see them coming. Perhaps, given the insane amounts of money people have, somebody somewhere will convince the feds to let them have one.
